A multi award winning artist and Master Pastellist, Christine has turned her talents to a wide range of diverse and expressive subjects from beach scenes, flowers, figures, portraits, seascapes, boats and cars. A career spanning over 30 years, Christine’s work features in personal collections throughout Australia, New Zealand, USA, Japan, and the UK. She previously co-owned a gallery in Mooloolaba however after 7 years and with less hours to devote to her passion, she decided to focus her energies on her artwork.
Christine has painted in various mediums but regards pastel as her favourite and has worked almost exclusively in pastel for the past 14 years. “I love the pure pigment of pastel and the vibrant colours. It inspires me to create energy, passion and mood in my work. I can create a lively image with a wonderful sense of movement and texture using scribble like strokes across my paintings with my pastel. It’s what I have always loved about working in pastel”
Recently Chris has been experimenting with a combination of pastel and acrylic. The acrylic paints have allowed a sense of lustre and light that combined with the texture and earthiness of the pastel creates a “wonderful sense of depth, almost bringing the paintings to life”
Originally from Melbourne, Victoria, Christine studied with top Australia and international artists before settling on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland where she has been working as an artist and tutor for the over twenty years. Her passion for art was one she feels was instinctive, always drawing as a child, and constantly drawn to her late grandfather’s pastel paintings when she was a young girl. However it wasn’t until after the birth of her first two children that Christine decided to undergo study to pursue her passion
As a mother of four and grandmother to six Christine has a very full and busy life that is also a wonderful source of inspiration;
“I am often inspired by my family, whether it’s a place we’ve shared a precious memory or simply when I see my grandchildren at play. I love to tell a story capturing special moments in everyday life in everyday places”
